Summary of Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (spoilers Included)

Preceded by The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005), this episode starts from Narnia, which is now taken over by the Telmarines. Just then, King Miraz's wife, gave birth to a newborn son. Prince Caspian then was in danger as King Miraz wants to be the King of Narnia. His professor helped him to run to the woods of Narnia, which was knowned to be the place where the old Narnians(talking animals, centaurs etc.) lives.

While on the run, he met some Narnians. He was also surrounded by the soldiers that were hunting for him. Desperate for help, he blew the horn that his professor gave him for emergency uses.

From then, it was back to the Pevenzies. They we're waiting for the train to come. Suddenly, something magical was happening. It was like something was taking them to somewhere. It was Narnia. They then had fun at the beach, and explored the place. They found the place they once lived-Cair Paravel. It was in ruins. Back to King Miraz, his soldiers found a Narnian. In the council, he proved that there were Narnians living, and mocked them saying "they are breeding like cockroaches". That Narnian was ordered to be dropped into the sea.

The Pevenzies saved the dwarve, which later is also knowned as DLF(Dear Little Friend). The D.L.F then lead the Pevenzies to Prince Caspian. On the way, Lucy saw Aslan, waving her to come to him. The others didn't believe her, so they used the other way which was occupied by the Telmarines. They then decided to follow Lucy's plan.

The next day, Lucy dreams of Aslan. She then woke up and went to find Aslan. Suddenly Peter hid her, as someone was coming. Peter than was attacked by Prince Caspian, who he didnt really get along with him =p. They grouped together in Aslan's How and made a plan. They were going to sneak attack the Telmarines.

The plan worked out at the start. But soon, the Telmarines discovered the plan because of King Miraz. An exciting battle went on for awhile, with Susan using her archery skills which wasn't shown much in the 1st episode. Peter then decided to attack King Miraz, but after seeing a Narnian died easily, he changed his mind. Not too long later, King Miraz ordered his men to close the large entrance of the castle. A minotaur tried his best to stop the entrance from closing, despite being shot at. Peter, Edmund, Susan and Prince Caspian managed to escape along with other Narnians, but the others were stuck inside the castle. They then when back to Aslan's How to deliver the bad news of the defeat.

Prince Caspian was sad. Nikabrik and another creature told him about the White Witch. They then summoned the White Witch, while Peter and Edmund trying to them them. All they have to do to make the White Witch revive is a drop of son of Adam's blood(human blood). Edmund managed to stop it. Nikabrik and the other creature was killed too.

Prince Caspian came up with an idea: it is better for a man to die rather than many to die. He suggested King Peter to have a duel with King Miraz. Whoever loses, the whole army will lose too. Edmund send the challenge to King Miraz which he cannot refuse (due to some law or something).

The duel starts. Peter comes in a very stylist manner with a slash on King Miraz. During the duel, both were badly injured. They had a minute's break after that. When they continue, King Miraz almost killed Peter, but Peter who is determined to win, fought back and held King Miraz at his mercy. Peter then gave the sword to Prince Caspian to finish him off(because King Miraz killed his father). But he didn't. General Glozelle, who was embaressed by King Miraz, sought to take revenge. He killed him and made it look like the Narnians killed him. He then yelled" Treachery! Telmar! To Arm! Treachery!". They they fought.

The Narnians had a very good startegy plan, for example luring them to Aslan's How and collapsing it, which resulted in many Telmarines death. The Telmarines were forced to retreat because of the trees that helped the Narnians. Lucy who was finding Aslan earlier, found him and they helped too. The Telmarines were surrounded on the bridge, most of them died or surrender.

In the end, Aslan gave the Telmarines the option to go back to Telmar, or stay in Narnia. Some of them stayed, some of them went back to Telmar. Susan and Peter had to go back to England too. Susan, who was in love with Prince Caspian, kissed Prince Caspian goodbye. So they went back and that's it.

The Tragedy Called Vietnam

Any day a war begins may be described just as our President in 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt avowed in a speech to Congress, it was “...a day that will live in infamy.” As stated in regards to the attacks December 7th on Pearl Harbor: Bear in mind though that since neither country proceeded correctly, this quote is characteristic of many wars today. The songs that blare through our stereo systems and embed themselves in the deepest sectors of our minds, images and videos spoon-fed to us by “The Man,” and even the plethora of political articles written across the vastness of cyberspace we call the Internet all mold the miry clay that is our perspective of the Vietnam War, the War in Iraq, and war as a whole.

To begin with, the Vietnam War was from 1959 to 1975, but one modern movie is exemplary of multimedia influence, Full Metal Jacket. The movie conveys strictly the war, and takes no side for or against the Vietnam War: So the director claims, but take a closer look, and you will notice that it is antiwar; a plethora of negative events occur to persuade the viewer that we should not go to war. Toward the begging of the movie Gomer Pyle doesn't even make it through boot camp. He ended up killing himself over being treated unethically. In society one perspective is that war is wrong, and that people just can't take bear the burden presented. Due to the way soldiers and Drill Sgt. Hartman are portrayed, viewers gain also the perspective that leaders of war are draconian, or severe: If the leaders are having to teach discipline or so harshly that a man commits suicide, should we as citizens go to war? These are questions provoked by movies such as Full Metal Jacket. The viewer also sees the trickery of war later in the movie when a man is killed by a booby trap. The rap was a teddy bear attached to a land mine, as to shield its ominous and true identity. The obdurate, yet concomitant, soldier was murdered because of a “cheap trick.” These evidences generate a negative opinion about the war, while at the same time society takes note to how things like that must come to an end nonetheless. In the 2005 movie called Lord of War, viewers will receive an inside look at what “real” deadly counties are like, and why we should fight to end this suffering. One scene in the movie shows how the Warlord murders people for no reason at all when he tests his newly acquired .357 magnum on a fellow soldier. Later, the movie shows the prostitution that occurs in Africa in order for women to make money all because the leaders of the country are power hungry and greedy for money. These scenes show the viewer that we should go to war in order to thwart the atrocities constantly taking place in a plethora of areas around Africa.

Furthermore, songs also take a great leap into the concaves of our mind to spin a web of perspective for us all. One antiwar song really hits home for people in America during the Vietnam War's end: “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath. The song was released in 1970 on the album Paranoid. The song says “Generals gathered...like witches...” This is a reference to how the war is pointless killing. The reason is that this is a reference to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. The trials had many people killed over a spook from two young girls, Betty Parris, and Abigail Williams. The reference is how the generals are fighting for nothing, and are just absentminded, controlled, and misguided little girls. In contrast, “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue” by Toby Keith supports the ideals of war. A quote from the song says “My daddy...lost his right eye...flew a flag...until the day that he died...” This really tells people that even though there are losses in war, and it is not all fun and games that, however, you should be thankful for the rights you have because of the fighting going on behind enemy lines.

In addition, another way that perspective is affected by “the man” is through the political articles so conveniently available at most citizens’ fingertips. A political writer named Paul Joseph Watson states his antiwar beliefs in an article called “Rogue U.S. Troops Knowingly Bombed British In Iraq.” A quote from the article is as follows: “Ethnic cleansing, maimed children and thousands of dead American soldiers are a small price to pay because for the Globalists the end always justifies the means and untold bloodshed and misery and bloodshed won't stand in their way.” Watson is remarking on the fact that many of the power holders in America do not care if an abundance of innocent people die, or that there is “bloodshed” in war. The quote shows how the controllers want everyone to conform to their standards, and if people must die in order for the “correct” end, then it is a “small price to pay.” Contrarily, Michael Yon takes a war supporting photograph captioning it: “A US Soldier comforts a child fatally wounded in a car bomb blast in Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.” This caption tells you enough that you don't even need to see the photo; a child is being saved and comforted in the arms of a US Soldier, showing how the peoples of other nations need our help, and therefore we should wage war across seas."

Review of W

Today, I unexpectedly had a chance to catch a movie at the cinema. From the choices of Body of Lies, Madgascar, or High School Musical 3, my companions decided on W. Walking into the premise, I honestly had no idea of what kind of movie I would be seeing. My buddy told me it would be funny, and my other friend stubbornly told me it was most definitely NOT funny.

After seeing it, I would say that it is mildly funny, but it is a fairly accurate picture of what most Americans think of the Bush, Jr., Presidency. With that said, flashing pictures of 9/11 and the many government legislations that have tore the rights out of the Bill of Rights come to mind. However, this film also shows the hardships that our beloved president George Bush had to face. Personally, I am very open-minded, and before I've seen this movie I have always thought that there is always a redeemable trait in a person. Mr. Bush here is no exception.

This movie has opened my eyes to the background of our president, and it is quite an interesting story. Alocholic and unable to keep any job, George W. Bush has had problems from the start of his college career. HIs father had to constantly bail him out of rather tough situations that include his drunk driving. Following in the footsteps of his great ex-president father and his brother Jed, Bush had always fallen short to their great standards. This movie shows how Mr. Bush went from zero to being a president; quite a success story. To do this, the movie uses subtitles to switch from Bush's college and post-college life to his presidency days, and it does this effectively. In the beginning of the movie, we see Mr. Bush and his cabinet discussing terrorism as Americans would disappointingly expect. However, by the end of the movie, with knowledge of Bush's hardships and accomplishments, the audience can now look up to him as a hero. He may have made some bad decisions in office, but ultimately he never backed down-honor, something that most Americans seem to lack.

Another great aspect of the movie, the musical score is exemplary at painting the mood for each situation and conflict. From original orchestrated melodies to arrangements of American songs, the musical score has been well-thought and compiled, and the emotions felt from when George W. Bush faces hardships reflect that mentality.

The one thing I did not like is the subtle jokes used in the movie. Not only were they often profane and vulgar, I felt that the movie would have been better off without them. These jokes seem out of place and, for example, one of the jokes makes fun of Colin Powell's choice to not run for president.

Overall, this movie has much going for it. If you haven't gone out to see it, I highly recommend it. Though Bush is not gone yet from the coveted White House, this movie does a great job of encompassing Bush's life.

Apocalypse Now: Fact or Fiction?

American films often sacrifice historical accuracy in order to make their plots more interesting. But should events really be changed solely for the purpose of entertainment? The film "Apocalypse Now," which is based on the book Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, is a portrayal of the Vietnam War in the year 1969. This movie is a somewhat good resource for a US history classroom because it gives viewers an almost historically accurate background of the Vietnam War and what it was like. Some names were changed and some events were made up for the purpose of the plot, but overall it gives an accurate portrayal of the war.

The movie follows Captain Benjamin Willard in his search for Colonel Walter Kurtz, whom Willard is being sent to kill. Kurtz is wanted for ordering the execution of some Vietnamese agents that he thought were double agents. On Willard's journey to find him, he ends up doing drugs and becoming more and more like Kurtz. Kurtz tells Willard the story of what he did to make himself wanted by other army officials, and Willard takes it as Kurtz asking him to kill him.

Captain Benjamin Willard is the main character in the film, but it turns out that he was not actually a Captain in the Vietnam War. The actual person Willard is inspired by is named Marlow. The only misrepresentation in the film, though, is the name. Willard does all the same things in the film that Marlow actually did in the war. In the film and in real life, they were sent to terminate Colonel Kurtz. Another difference, though, is in the way that Kurtz dies.

Colonel William E. Kurtz is accurately represented in the movie as he was in real life. In the film, Willard kills him when Kurtz basically asks him to. However, in actual events, Kurtz has gone insane and ends up dying on the trip back. He had been in Korea and had an extremely impressive, even perfect, career. At the age of 38, he wanted airborne training, and he returned to Vietnam in 1966.

Operation Archangel was established in October of 1967 according to the film. Accordingly, this is also when it was established in history. The operation was created by the air force to come up with a new airplane that would be better than the U-2 that was already in use. They wanted something that would travel higher and faster. The result of Operation Archangel was the A-12 aircraft.

In the film, Willard and some of the men in the crew on his boat used drugs like LSD during the war. In the actual war, marijuana was the first drug used by American soldiers when they got over to Vietnam because it was the most abundant, and Vietnam did not have any well defined or enforced drug laws at the time. Other drugs that were widely available to soldiers at this time were opium, morphine, Binoctal, and heroin. Heroin was very widely available to the US forces during this time. It seemed that while at war, most of the men who were using these drugs would not have ever used them at home.

"Apocalypse Now" gives a good basic overview of what the Vietnam War was like, however there are several historical inaccuracies that could prevent it from being a good aid in teaching US history in a classroom.

Cinema of Apocalypse: The Last Man on Earth

Starring: Vincent Price

Running Time: 86 minutes

Release Date: March 8, 1964

Based on the novel, I am Legend that was hereafter adapted into two other films by the name of Omega Man starring Charlton Heston and the more familiar, I am Legend starring Will Smith as Robert Neville. The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price, is entertaining for a number of reasons. These also serve as reasons why the film is... not very good. First and foremost, a synopsis:

Robert Neville is a lonely man, and as far as he knows, he is the last human man left. He begins his day preparing large wooden stakes that he then uses to plunge through the hearts of those who are "infected." The infected cannot withstand the rays of the sun, and although they also display aversions to garlic and their reflection in the mirror, these are said to be merely psychological. Lastly, they must drink fresh blood. According to Wikipedia, this is the first time a film has attempted to use scientific reasons for vampirism.

For whatever reason, Robert Neville--our antihero--has not been affected by the disease. What did he do that was different? Wifeless and childless, Robert Neville has lost most of his hope for mankind--and most of his sanity. This is until he happens upon a lone woman walking around during the day.

Alright, the downsides of this movie... Vincent Price does well in roles that have a mysterious air about them. He does not, however, do very well traipsing around plunging stakes into the hearts of vampires. He just isn't... manly enough. His movements throughout the film are vaguely effeminate and thus, unconvincing. Every night, he waits for the vampires to come to his door. They throw things at his house, hoping to break his fortress and charge inside--they even yell things at him: "We're gonna get you," they say menacingly... Needless to say, these vampires aren't very charismatic.

Cinema of Apocalypse: Panic in Year Zero

Starring: Ray Milland

Running Time: 93 minutes

Release Date: July 5, 1962

The Baldwin family set out of Los Angeles, California for a fishing trip one sunny day. They are a seemingly normal family: Man and wife Harry and Ann Baldwin with their two children Rick and Karen. Only after a little while's drive, the family sees a great explosion behind them, what they would later find out is the beginning of a third world war. Immediately, Harry predicts the mayhem and lawlessness of his family's impending future and breaks many laws for their preservation. This includes robbing a hardware store and gas station within the first couple hours of the nuclear blast. But they're not the only ones operating on "survival of the fittest" mode. People are scrambling to leave the city, driven only be fear.

And of course there are others who seek to take advantage of all the madness... Three hooligans Carl, Mickey and Andy rape and pillage their way about town only making matters worse for the Baldwin family. Of course, Harry Baldwin guessed that would happen too, and he tells his wife and daughter to hide in the trailer attached to the back of the car. They don't seem to understand why until the hoodlums show up. How will the Baldwin family ever have a normal life again?

An extremely brave, realistic, and tense movie, Panic in Year Zero! triumphs in its portrayal of human nature and the complete breakdown of societal norms. The movie's faults lie in its women characters. With her world crumbling before her very eyes, Ann Baldwin insists that people are still inherently rational, although she is repeatedly proven wrong. Even with the threat of rape constantly looming, Ann Baldwin remains in denial insisting that Harry not harm "those boys." This is, of course, until her daughter wanders too far away from camp and encounters the infamous cackling hooligans.

An excellent movie that has yet to receive the credit it deserves.

The Happening Review

First thing first - I am on top of the cult following Shyamalan has.

Having said that, my worst fears came true last evening. Shyamalan has taken this cult following too seriously, much like his earlier success. The fact is that fan loyalty is as good as the idol and we have seen this slip for many idols before Shyamalan.

Yes, it would be early to write him off but not too early for him to see SIGNS for the Beginning of the end. In fact, some would argue that the rot started with the Village and sadly I don’t have strong evidence to counter that.

The good thing first - like his last two duds, this film too has the heart in the right place but lets face it - cinema halls are no church. If we want to redeem ourselves then its unlikely we will walk into a multiplex to cleanse our souls.

But I would have been okay if THE HAPPENING did even that. But it didn’t and now we are left with one of the best new hopes of cinema left with a huge gap to redeem himself.

The thing is that it fails on so many levels that its embarrassing to point such trivial things for a movie directed by someone set to wear the crown as the Hitchcockian master.

So, let me just rattle the miseries off - single dimensional characters, lack of any conflict, bad performances, weakest screenplay and uninspired direction. He couldn’t even make nature look menacing, something that even a non intellectual mainstream pot boiler called THE DAY AFTER TOMMOROW managed to achieve. It’s all there and more...

The thing about making realistic cinema is that you cant really be realistic, you just have to pretend to be realistic but never forget that you are actually making a dramatic art form called cinema that needs heightened emotions and chills and thrills and fireworks even if the film is a bloody biography of mother Teresa.

Then this subject was in any case far more exciting - global warming or nature strikes back could be made into a menacing and thrilling movie. Yes, agreed when it really happens it will probably be slow and understated the way Shyamalan has shown it but this is cinema....you should be able to wake me up before I smell the coffee!!!

The film should have been called THE WAITING because that’s all the audience kept doing for something...anything to "happen".

I seriously suggest that Shyamalan takes some time off and de-school himself from his success story and starts making movies from the heart.

And one last suggestion - PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM BOLLYWOOD!!! That’s the last place you will find any answers for sure...because we are still looking for them ourselves.....

There are boys and there are men. Robert Redford is a man like no other. I don't think I can write enough good things about him if I had all the space in the world and I am not even talking about sundance film festival started by him for which alone he should get a Nobel.

Coming to his latest movie - to an untrained eye, this will start off as a boring drama piece with no punches but I think in this film is the hardest sock a filmmaker has delivered on Mr Bush's chin and on our conscience as a society.

I am saying ours and not American society alone because really there are many countries in the world which are facing similar dilemma. Including my country - India.

People who stand to benefit the least land up sacrificing the most for the nation. And in this line from the movie perhaps lies the moral centre of this story as well.

Yes, it is not directed like a young teen on speed and not edited by paraplagic sccissor happy fingers but it will make us think of where we stand on issues concerning our own little worlds and what are we doing about it.

Most critics of this film trashed it as a slow boring drama but Tom cruise is not an idiot to take up a lead role in a film where he hardly gets up from a chair if the film wasn't important enough.

The reason this film did not connect with America today is for the same reason we do not like looking in the mirror when we are having a bad hair day but there's no point going around breaking the mirror. is there? it's not the mirror's fault dummy.

The script is intelligent and screenplay is well crafted and most importantly the director is not trying to show off. he is simply sharing some facts through simple story telling. Mature cinema , reminded me of what great american cinema used to be before it got eaten by chinese monsters.

Paths of Glory

From within the luxurious chambers of the Top French Officers a domino effect sustained by manipulation and self-interests is begun. The original idea to attack a position known as the Anthill is suggested by General Broulard, a wily, calloused and yet cultivated man, to his ambitions subordinate officer, General Mireau. At a stalemate with the French for 2 years, Broulard is eager to win against the Germans at all costs. At first apprehensive to Broulard's suicidal plan to defeat the Germans in a meaningless battle, he agrees when he realizes this battle will win him a promotion. Thus the first domino drops, and the General begins his quest to escape the guilt knowing he is partially responsible for the lives of his men.

Mireau visits the front's war zone, in a dramatic change of scene. He is clearly out of place and ill-at-ease as he marches through the muddy, narrow trenches to inform Commander Colonel Dax of the planned attack. Emotionally and physically isolated from the men he leads, Mireau plans to pass the responsibility of the attack on to his field commander. The General uses the same tactics that Broulard used on him to slowly convince Dax to lead the attack on Anthill. When Mireau realizes Dax will not cooperate willingly, he threatens Dax with relieving his of his command if he should not comply. It can be said that Dax follows orders for much the same reason Mireau did, for personal gain. Each man in the line of command has a less sinister reason for complying with the plan: Broulard and his careless attitude toward casualties to win at all costs, Mireau and his ambitious desire to obtain a promotion, and Colonel Dax, who simply wants to keep his job.

The attack itself is a complete disaster, with French troops retreating and some soldiers not even leaving the trenches. Mireau, who is a spectator with binoculars in the command post a safe distance away, is impatient and hysterical for the men to attack in a new wave. His impatience with his men is questionable because of his relative perspective on the battle. If he had been in the same position as Colonel Dax, who was leading the assault, he may have been more empathetic to the feeling of hopelessness and more aware to the sheer absurdity of the attack. Unable to admit that the attack was ill-conceived and to consequently cover up his own disastrous complicity, Mireau announces that he plans to assemble a general court-martial for the next day to selectively punish the regiment for its cowardice.

The court martial precedes in a very unfair and biased manner. Dax stands as the defense in the trial, and each time he presents evidence to display the heroism of his troops or else to prove the absurdity of the attack it is struck down as unfit for the defense. The true purpose of the court martial was to place the blame of the failed attack on scapegoats; the 3 blameless, randomly selected soldiers from the attack were to be executed to “set an example.” The true blame rested on the generals for planning such an absurd plan, a plan that reached its peak of absurdity when General Mireau calls for Captain Nichols to notify Captain Rousseau, the battery commander, and orders him to open fire on his own troops who are still in the trenches. Rousseau respectfully refuses the request twice knowing that he must have written proof of the insane command. He too is disposed of after the battle, on the charge of an insufficient supply of artillery shells. The blame rests on the corrupt reasoning of the head General Broulard, who defended his own motives using a veil of patriotism. Dax eventually realized this, but realized this too late to save his men.
