One of the Best Sports Movies Ever

Last week I saw this great movie "Facing the Giants", sadly it was never shown here in the Philippines but VCDs and DVDs are available. But anyway, this is I think the greatest sports-related movie I've ever seen. It's about a high-school football coach who faced a lot of trials in his life but still lived a very Godly life. And he was able to reach out to his team and even the school as well.

The great thing about this movie is that it is not afraid to show Christian Values on it's scenes. There was a scene that this coach was so low already, because he's on the brink of losing his job, he's team is on a losing streak, he just learned that he is incapable of having a child. But there he was although sleepless, he was holding his bible and reading and praying! Wow, I mean for most of the movies right now, siguro nagpakamatay na ung tao na un, or di kaya nasira ang ulo! But that's why I think that this movie is the greatest, because it tells the TRUTH, well, most of you would argue about that but hey! this is my blog! It tells the TRUTH that at your lowest point in your life, there is only one person you can turn to, and that is God. And to make the long story short, God would end up using this coach to bring Glory back to him and to reach out to his players as well.

At your lowest point in life, there is no way to go but UP already! And that is what happened to him, he got a message from the local pastor that God is not finished with him yet and God has a great plan for him. So over the next few days/weeks, changes were seen to his coaching, players, to his assistant coaches, even the school was drawn near to God. They ended up winning the championship on a miracle shot. Plus another miracle was that they learned that same day they won that his wife is pregnant!

Too perfect?! No, that is how God want our lives to be. Perfect. He said "...I came so that they may have life and have it in abundance...".

I believe that, even in my lowest point right now, I will continue to believe that.

Disaster Movie

Altogether worthy of its title, Disaster Movie is a catastrophically unfunny farce of disastrous proportions. Not so much a film with a coherent plot but a witless check list of satirical jabs at blockbusters and pop idols (Hannah Montana, Justin Timberlake, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson), it tirelessly attempts to spoof every big film released in recent times.

The same formula has been milked before by writer/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer who follow their past projects Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans (all crass money-making comedies mocking other movies) to achieve the impossible by making a film far worse than any of the aforementioned flicks (or any film in history, ever).

Sadly Disaster Movie has all of the charm and coherence of a drunken Amy Winehouse, whose impersonator here guzzles gasoline, burps and slurs in a Dick Van Dyke-like cockney accent. Even sadder is the fact that there must be a market for this trite because the dim-witted directorial duo behind this disaster just keeps churning them out.

The feeble theme (loosely built around Cloverfield) that tries to tie all of the random ideas together is that All-American hunk Will (Matt Lanter) is attempting to rescue his beautiful squeeze Amy (Vanessa Minillo) when the Earth becomes the target of every natural disaster imaginable. Joined on his quest by Calvin (G-Thang), Will runs into an assortment of characters from at least two dozen films including: 10,000 BC, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, No Country for Old Men, Wanted, Juno, High School Musical, Sex and the City, Jumper, Prince Caspian, Enchanted, Hancock, Iron Man, Hellboy, The Incredible Hulk, Get Smart, Alvin & The Chipmunks, A Night at the Museum and Kung-Fu Panda.

The fundamental error in this film’s concept is that if you don’t actually recognise any of the movies being mocked you will no doubt be completely lost for near-on 90 minutes. On the other hand, if you find juvenile, homophobic, politically incorrect jokes about burps, breast milk and other bodily fluids hilarious then this is your kinda show.

The film’s few highlights include: a five-second appearance by Carmen Electra’s cleavage; ‘Michael Jackson’ being discovered in the boot of a car with a child and a monkey exclaiming: “What? We’re just playing with my monkey”; and (it doesn’t remotely reach laugh-out-loud status but is about as humorous as this motion picture gets) when Sex and the City’s Carrie emerges as a dude in drag; the resemblance to Sarah Jessica Parker is strangely uncanny.

To sum up: Disaster Movie sucks. A freak show of gargantuan proportions, it’s so bad it makes you think that Friedberg and Seltzer actually want people to hate it. Frankly, this film is about as funny for its audience as hurricane Gustav was to the residents of Louisiana; the hard task is deciding which is the biggest disaster.

Starring: Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minillo, Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian, G-Thang

Written & directed by: Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer

Movie Review: Love in the Time of Cholera

Based upon the novel, this movie follows the love sick character Florentino Ariza, played by Javier Bardem. Better know for his role in No Country For Old Men, Javier shows his softer side, as he follows the love of his life Fermina Urbino, played by Giovanna Mezzogiorno. A virtual unknown in American cinema, she lends herself to the role of Fermina, a quiet, reserved woman who first sees Florentino as he is leaving from a telegram delivery. Head over heals Florentino devotes his life to this woman he does not know, vowing to keep himself a virgin and wait for her, for however long it takes.

Excited his mother, ushers him to pursue his love. Florentino writes a letter the size of a book to give to her, expressing how he feels. She eventually accepts it and is about to deny his request for her hand in marriage, when the aunt tells her, not to be a fool and accept. She does reluctantly and without her fathers permission. Her father played by John Leguizamo, whisks her away to the country, as he only just moved there and with the intention of his daughter marrying above their class. A telegraph boy was not what he had in mind. With his love taken and nothing, but his writing, Florentino begins a quest of love and passion in poetry. Eventually marrying a doctor played by Benjamin Pratt, Fermina struggles with her boyhood crush and her very attractive and rich husband. Florentino does not give up and the story lends itself to a true romantic tale.

Unfortunately, I have not read the book, but having seen the film, I am inclined to do that. The story was beautiful, the twists, the plot points, the actors, the cinematography, however, the faults were too many for me to enjoy the film. I wanted to ring Florentino's neck for crying so damn much, but I forgave that writing privilege, for the sake of it being a love story. Yet, there is not one excuse acceptable for the poorly done make up and aging done to the actors. I could see the cracks in the make up for God's sakes. The parts of the story that I'm sure were in the book, but obviously missing from the movie, would probably have made for a more believable timeline. One minute their young and acceptably aging to the next faze in life. However, when they age from middle age to senior citizen, not only does the make up get worse, but so does the believability of time. I would have liked to see more in regards to what Fermina was doing. She seems so meek and mild, but with an underlying spunk to her throughout the whole film and then by the time she meets up with Florentino again in her old, old age of 72, she is not only sure of herself, adamant about her wants and needs, but also easy to show her breasts, which she was very shy about early on. How did this character development take place? We never find out.

I certainly agree to take the extra step to go read the book first and if you can overlook the poor make up and poor transition of time, then the movie may add to the books experience. I give the movie a 6.

Movie Review

Review of John Grisham's The Rainmaker. It is based upon Mr. Grisham's novel about an idealistic young attorney who takes on a case of a lifetime. Francis Ford Coppola directs and scripts the movie version of this novel released in 1998. The cast of main characters are: Matt Damon as Rudy Baylor, a young attorney fresh out of law school that ends up making a name for his self after trying his first case; Danny DeVito as Deck Shifflet, a “veteran” attorney who, after six attempts, still has not been able to pass the Bar Exam makes Rudy his equal partner in their own Law Firm; Claire Danes as Kelly Riker, a battered wife who ends up changing her whole life after meeting Rudy; Jon Voight as Attorney Leo F. Drummond, “a seasoned legal shark” representing The Great Benefits Insurance Company; Mary Kay Place as Dot Black, woman who sues her medical insurance company for denying her son, Donny Ray, medical care which results in his untimely death; and Mickey Rourke as Attorney Jay Lymon “Bruser” Stone, crooked attorney who gave Rudy his first job as an attorney at his firm.

Legal dramas and dilemmas make for interesting entertainment because while watching the drama unfold, you are constantly “on the edge of your seat”. You try to guess what you think may happen next but you are usually wrong for one reason or another. Logic seems to be thrown out the window with these types of entertainment which makes it all the more better. Legal dramas almost always surprise its viewers because of the many twists and turns the storyline takes. One could not even begin to imagine what is taking place but at the same time, one tries to imagine every detail not only with amazement but with shear disbelief as well. As in this particular movie, the initial law suit was for $10,000,000. However, after it was all said and done, the jury awarded the Black's $150,000 for damages and $50,000,000 for punitive damages; resulting in the largest amount ever received in a law suit of this type. The irony, however, is that The Great Benefits Insurance Company quickly filed bankruptcy and the Black's never saw a dime of what was owed to them. Dot Black did not seem to mind when Rudy gave her the news. She simply smiled and said, “A little old woman from Memphis, TN. broke the biggest insurance company that was once worth millions.”

Brief summarization of movie plot: Rudy Baylor is a rookie lawyer in over his head on a high-profile case. Rudy must go up against an army of seasoned legal sharks. On his side: Deck Shifflet, a feisty “paralawyer” who specializes in flunking the bar exam. Rudy's chances of winning this case are slim to none; that is, until he uncovers a trail of corruption that might lead to the one thing that could win his case: the truth.

Rudy Baylor had to deal with a couple of ethical dilemmas within this movie. The main one is the choice he must make as an attorney; to go by the book or to throw out all he was taught just to win a case. When Rudy decided to represent the Black's in their law suit against their medical insurance company he knew from the start that the Black's had a legitimate claim and their son, Donny Ray, deserved to receive the proper medical care to help save his life. The Great Benefits Insurance Company was liable to pay for that care since Dot Black made her monthly premiums every month as outlined in the policy. Rudy's dilemma began when the insurance company made their first settlement offer of $50,000 to $75,000. He informed his clients of the offer; one he had full intention of taking if his clients agreed. However, when Donny Ray asked him on his death bed if he wanted to settle, Rudy really looked at this dying boy for the first time and knew what he should do; what was right ethically and morally. He told Donny Ray he would fight the insurance company all the way. The ethical dilemma was that Rudy almost did not defend his clients to the best of his abilities. He saw dollar signs and for a moment, was tempted to take the money for his own personal gain instead of exposing The Great Benefits Insurance Company as the biggest scamming business it truly was. Even though Donny Ray died before the case went to trial, Rudy kept his promise and in the end won extremely more than he could have ever imagined.

The other ethical dilemma that faced Rudy involved Kelly Riker. Rudy met Kelly at the hospital where she was a patient. Kelly was put there by her husband, Cliff Riker, when he beat her with an aluminum baseball bat almost killing her. The two quickly fell in love. Rudy convinced Kelly to file for divorce before Cliff finally does kill her; vowing he would protect her from Cliff's rages. Kelly later agreed when Cliff beat her again not long after she went home from the hospital. Rudy accompanied her back to her house to pack her things. While there, Cliff unexpectedly came home; aluminum baseball bat in hand. Cliff began swinging the bat resulting in hitting both Kelly and Rudy with it. Just when it looked as if Cliff was going to kill them both, Rudy managed to knock Cliff senseless. Even though Cliff was on the floor bleeding, Rudy still hit him twice in the head with the bat splattering Cliff's blood all over the wall. Kelly stopped Rudy and told him to leave and said, “You were never here.” After he left, Kelly called the police and took the blame stating that once again, Cliff tried to beat her but this time; she struck back resulting in his death. Rudy knew that he killed Cliff but before he thought things through, he did as Kelly asked. Now she was being arrested and charged with his death. Rudy talked with the prosecuting attorney and convinced him not to press charges; stating it was self defense.

Due to the ethical dilemmas that Rudy faced, in the end, he decided to take Kelly and leave Memphis, TN. He also decided that since he “crossed over that line”, being a lawyer was not something he wanted to be after all. He was forced to do things that he knew were morally wrong and since he had a conscience, he could not bring his self to ever “cross over that line” again.

Rudy could have decided to take the insurance company's first offer of $50,000 to $75,000. Since he was entitled to a third of that, and knowing he needed the money badly, it would have certainly helped him out financially. By doing so, The Great Benefits Insurance Company would have gotten away with scamming their policy holders allowing them to keep on doing just that in the future. The Great Benefits Insurance Company was expecting Rudy and his clients to take their offer. They never dreamed that a kid fresh out of law school and a little old woman from Memphis, TN. would bring their million dollar insurance scam crumbling down.

Movie Review: You Don't Mess with the Zohan

If you look at Adam Sandler's past movies, there are some unforgettably funny ones such as Happy Gilmore, the Waterboy, I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry, and Billy Madison. Then you have those movies that make you think, "That was two hours of my life that I will never get back" such as Little Nicky and Eight Crazy Nights. He has also starred in some movies that are worth watching, but nothing that I would want to watch over and over again, such as Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds. Which one of these categories would his newest movie You Don't Mess with the Zohan fit in? It is definately one of his funnier movies that he has ever been in.

In the movie Don't Mess With the Zohan, Sandler plays a very likable Israeli counter-terrorist. It opens as Zohan (Sandler) struts down the beach in his sleeveless shirt and cutoff jeans. He shakes his hips and sticks out his bulging crotch. The wind blows in Zohan's unruly hair as he poses for the women, plays Hacky Sack with the guys, and engages in tug of war with a bull. The images are zany and over-the-top, but they contain a quality that lets us know everybody is having fun.

Zohan's vacation gets interrupted by the Israeli army, who need the expert Mossad agent to capture his arch nemesis, a Palestinian terrorist who calls himself The Phantom (John Turturro). But Zohan is tired of always being the go to guy when it comes to thwarting Israel's enemies. He doesn't find counter-terrorism fulfilling any more and tells his mother and father (Dina Doronne and Shelley Berman) he wants to go to America to be a hair stylist, "to make the hair silky smooth." They laugh in his face.

During an uproarious action sequence, Zohan takes out an entire Palestinian compound by himself. The man is so good he can turn around in the blink of a frame and catch bullets with his teeth. He chases The Phantom into the ocean for a game of water ping pong with a live grenade, which gives Zohan the perfect opportunity to fake his own death. He sneaks on a flight to New York with two dogs named Scrappy and Coco and appropriately assumes the name "Scrappy Coco." Zohan's goal is to work for Paul Mitchell, but after he's turned away, he makes friends with Michael (Nick Swardson) and even better friends with Michael's mother (Lainie Kazan), with whom he "makes the sticky."

Unable to find a stylist job at more reputable salons, Zohan enters the Palestinian-Israeli district, where his friend Oori (Ido Mosseri) runs a "Going Out of Business" electronic store. He points Zohan to a Palestinian salon across the street, run by the ravishing Dalia (Emmanuelle Chriqui). To prove he is worthy of cutting hair, Zohan performs no-handed pushups and treats a chair like a pummel horse. Dalia makes him hair sweeper and Zohan doesn't let one piece drop on the floor. One of the movie's biggest laughs comes when Zohan gets his first string of customers, all of them old ladies, whom he sensualizes with the shampoo and a showerhead...and then later with other things in other places.

The underlying plot revolves around a business tycoon (Michael Buffer) wanting to tear down the Israeli-Palestinian community to put up a new mall. There's also the matter of Salim (Rob Schneider), a taxi driver who wants revenge against the Zohan for stealing his precious goat back in Israel. During an amusing scene, Salim calls the Hezbollah hotline, where the answering service says things like "For terrorist supplies, press 5."

This was a great movie. There was not one person in the theater that was not laughing through out the entire movie. Adam Sandler is a great actor in this movie. So watch Don't Mess with the Zohan; you will not be disappointed.

Batman: Gotham Knight Animators

I just finished watching an anthology of Batman features in Batman: Gotham Knight. This anthology, reminiscent of Animatrix, is packed full of beautiful animations. Below I have accumulated a list of the animation production companies that created each segment in Batman: The Gotham Knight for those that are curious. If you love animation as much as I do you should give it a read and it could give you some ideas of what to watch next.

"Have I Got a Story For You" - This is the first short feature and it was produced by Studio 4*C(Studio 4 Degrees Celsius). They were the ones responsible for Tekkon Kin Kreet, another excellent film.

"Crossfire" - The second feature was produced by the company Production I.G. They produced the Ghost in the Shell animations.

"Field Test" - The third short film was produced by Bee Train, the animators of Noir, Dot.hack, and Tsubasa Chronicles. I haven't personally check out any of these anime but I might now.

"In Darkness Dwells" - The fourth was done by the company that produced Cardcaptor Sakura, Deathnote, and that short Final Fantasy VII spinoff, Last Order. They are called Madhouse.

"Working Through the Pain" - This is the fifth and I couldn't tell who did this one just by watching. It was like a mix of Peter Chung(Aeon Flux) and _________(Vampire Hunter D). I was way off in any case. I discovered that Studio 4*C was also responsible for this one.

"Deadshot" - The finale of Batman: Gotham Knight and well worth it. This one was done by Madhouse as well but someone special worked on it also. Yoshiaki Kawajiri himself, the writer/director of Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and more. This was my favorite short. I thought that the animation was gorgeous and really lived up to his name.

All that said the order of the movies is interesting also. The first feature is very disproportional and dreamy. As the animations go on the solidity of the animations becomes greater until the last animation which similar Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is full of thick lines and solid animation. This is an anthology and the story from feature to feature aren't connected although the transition from film to film is nice. The stories are fun and include such villains as Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and Deadshot. Also the first three shorts include alot of gang related villains. All in all if you love animation and are looking for a good film packed with great animators you should definitely give Batman: Gotham Knight a watch.

Semi Pro Movie

Semi Pro is a Comedy Movie that will make you laugh until your stomach hurts. This is another Movie of Will Ferrell. Obviously, we see the same old acting. I hope next time I can watch different style. I am sorry to tell this but there are action and language that I do not like. I advice parents not to allow their children's to watch this or if they do, do not let them hear some language or see some scenes that can affect their behaviors.

I know Will Ferrell is a legend in Comedy but I think it is time to make difference. I want to watch Movie from him that makes the World adore him. Do you think its Possible? I hope so… Will Ferrell is never too late to get the attention of the new generation. Many Teenagers love Comedy Movies that is why he has a big chance to hit the chart. I hope his next Movie will be for all the family Members.

Semi Pro is about a disco singer named Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) who wants to have his own Basketball team. When his one and only single made a lot of money he decided to have the Flint Michigan Tropics basketball team, which is the worst team ever. He made himself as the head of everything. When he and his team found out that ABA will merge with NBA they became serious in the court.

The Movie shows a good Example of Determination. It means never give up on the things you really love. Do your best to achieve it. We are not born to be failure, we are born to succeed.

I Know Who Killed Me: Why Lindsay's Film Was a Flop

It might be that Lindsay Lohan was the best thing that's in “I Know Who Killed Me” because if you watch the film and imagine it without her, you'd know why the movie is a flop. It's not because of her, it's because of the story.

It's a too forward and in your face kind of movie you wouldn't want to watch with your friends. Lindsay Lohan did well but I think the movie just doesn't suit her. It's like, it's not for her and that it's not the kind of movie you'd want to see her doing.

The movie is dark and gritty. If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't like callous and blunt interactions then I suggest you don't watch this film.

It's kind of painful and sometimes disgusting to watch, like it's not meant to be seen by people. I wasn't entertained, I was quite appalled. It isn't like X-Files or Alien vs. Predator or Angel or Supernatural or any of those TV/Movie shows. It's too close to home, the reality's too much you just can't stand it sometimes. You go from weird to absurd to gory. And there are scenes that are too much. Some scenes could have been cut, but no, it went on and on and on like you should just sit there, grin and bear it.

I'm not even talking about the plot here, it's just the treatment. I'm still at the supposed superficial part.

“I Know Who Killed Me” can be rated as a B movie. That's all there is to it. You wouldn't feel happy after watching the movie, it's not the intent but still you wouldn't feel good after watching it. Even if there is an alternate ending (included in the DVD release), it still doesn't take away the fact that this movie is not that good at all.

With a rating of 10 being awesome, 1 being the worst, I give this movie a 4.

But if you are a film buff who likes watching horror or suspense movies, maybe you'd enjoy watching this.

When a single stray fly goes unnoticed as it becomes trapped in the transporter machine, the DNA of the fly and the scientist are infused together during the transporter human live testing of the machine. At first, no apparent damage to the scientist's body appeared to be a problem, but as more time flies by a noticeable mutation begins to show itself in the scientist's appearance and behavior.

Geena Davis plays the girlfriend and the only bridge to sanely of the scientist who continues to transform from human to fly. She stays by her lover's side throughout the morphing of her genius boyfriend. Even though his transformation begins showing signs of violent behavior and teams of armed security teams have been sent to eliminate the problem before it gets even more dangerous, she sticks by his side.

The movie is a great science fiction testament to how sciences can quickly spinout of control and how humanity can be influenced by the smallest and sometime unknown bugs within the most well thought out scientific experiments.

The movie “The Fly” is worthy of (Renting: Yes - Buying: Yes)

Movie Muse: National Treasure Movie Review

National Treasure leads three generations of Gates family members on a quest to solve and if at all possible, recover an estimated $1 billion dollars in hidden artifacts collected throughout the world over centuries. Uncovering the clues one piece of the puzzle at a time that leads to a daring heist of Declaration of Independence, which leads to another clue that will lead to another clue, while each new clue is more dangerous to follow than the last clue.

Ben Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) is an archaeologist treasure hunter whose family has been searching for a hidden treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers with the help of the Free Masons. A secret society consisting mostly by working class brick masons and stonemasons, but then later included members of other working class trades and some rather important American politicians. The only guides leading the way to solving this mysterious hidden treasure are puzzling clues that have been hidden on historical documents, in clever riddles and special opticals are need to reveal more keys to the puzzle.

Gates not working alone is accompanied by a wisecracking computer genius and a pretty young National Archives curator who originally become enthralled in the hunt for the treasure unwillingly. After successfully pulling off the crime of the century, Gates races against time to unravel the mystery before the FBI and his former greedy partner who originally tried to kill Gates are pursuing him on a cross-country high stakes adventure.

National Treasure puts the fun back into movies with its balance of action, humor and supercharged turn of events. Indiana Jones better watch out, because archaeologist Ben Franklin Gates is in town.
