Enchanted

Directed by Kevin Lima, Enchanted is a story about a fair maiden named Giselle, played by Amy Adams, who longs to find her prince charming in the animated world of Andalasia, where enchantment, true love and “happily ever after” are the predominant emotions of life. Unfortunately, Giselle's dream for living happily ever after forever and ever hampers the blissful life of Queen Narissa, played by Susan Saradon, the mother of Giselle's soon to be husband, Prince Edward, played by James Marsden. What's a Queen to do when her kingdom will soon belong to someone else? Banish the wretched maiden from the kingdom, of course. And, so, she does, just before the wedding takes place.

Banished by Queen Narissa from the kingdom of Andalasia, Giselle, looking as beautiful as Cinderella in her tiara and white wedding gown, awakens in a Manhattan sewer. Upon learning of his bride-to-be's disappearance from Giselle's furry chipmunk friend, Pip, played by Jeff Bennett in Andalasia and Kevin Lima in New York, Prince Edward mounts a rescue mission throughout the streets of Manhattan aided by Pip and the Queen's pawn, Nathaniel, played by Timothy Spall, however Nathaniel has a separate mission in mind - murder by poisonous apple courtesy of the evil Queen Narissa.

Meanwhile on the streets of Manhattan, charming divorce attorney, Robert Philip, played by Patrick Dempsey, and his daughter Morgan, played by Rachel Covey, spot Giselle attempting to enter through the door of a billboard that is in the image of a castle. While explaining her sudden displacement from Andalasia to Robert and Morgan, Giselle falls off the billboard catwalk into the arms of Robert, a real-life knight in shining armor, so to speak.

While waiting for Prince Edward to come for her, Giselle bestows some much-needed enchantment upon Manhattan, and Robert in particular. Skeptical that true love exists in the world, Robert is at odds with Giselle almost from the moment they meet. Giselle's belief in the fairy tale perception of “love at first sight ending in happily ever after…” is an unrealistic view in Robert's profession and personal life. Certain that love at first is nothing more than a myth bringing pain to those who believe in such a ridiculous idea, Robert, who has been dating Nancy, played by Idina Menzel, for five years, attempts to persuade Giselle that falling in love in just one day is impossible. But is it?

Enchanted: A Modern Disney Fairy Tale Movie

Enchanted is a heart-warming story of a Disney “princess” finding true love in a most unlikely place - New York City. New York is a busy town where people don't notice other people that much anymore… Each is filled with cynicism as they go about their daily lives to earn a living. Imagine what it would be like if you were a lost, pure-hearted and hopeful Disney princess-to-be suddenly thrust in a place like it.

I had thought this film would be much of a kiddie movie but it's not, it's actually for all ages. It's a real life fairy tale! For the cynics, it makes you want to believe in miracles again. For the broken hearted, it makes you want to believe there might be someone else altogether that was made for you. Like there must be someone else out there, other than the one you thought was your true love, who's your twin soul and that you haven't met him/her yet.

It's a fun-filled movie with animation, musicals, magic and action! The music and songs are very beautiful, all the dance sequence are fantastic! It makes me want to dance too.

There are some parts that I fond corny but what can I expect from a Disney cartoon character who became human? Of course she's bound to be quite funny in a way. Amy Adams is so believable as a cartoon character who became human.

The CG animation was also great. The best part of it is the flame that appears whenever the Narissa, the evil Queen, transforms. It's really amazing! The only thing that wasn't really believable was Narissa's dragon form… it didn't look much like a real dragon would look like in our world. It looked too cartoonish and a bit cute, but then maybe that was their intent.

All in all I'd give the movie a rating of 8, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best and most excellent.

I highly recommend it to people who want to believe in love again and to people who want to see what happens when imagination crosses over to reality.
