Why Gone with the Wind is my Favorite Movie, and Book

Out of all of the movies that I have watched, my all-time favorite is Gone With The Wind. I find all of the characters in this movie interesting. I have even read the book written by Margaret Mitchell twice. That is a huge book!

I find Scarlett O'Hara very interesting. I love to read about her. She is one of the most interesting characters in the movie. The way that she knew what she wanted and stopped at nothing to get it. She was strong, brave and beautiful, but could be cunning, vivacious and manipulative. She grew up rich and spoiled only to have it all go away after the Civil War broke out.

She had been taught how to be a lady, but that just wasn't her. Deep inside she felt that she lived in a world where she didn't belong. She admired her mother, but couldn't be like her. She lived in a time where certain things were expected of people. She had to pretend to be something she wasn't. She wanted to be herself, but she couldn't, because of the fear of what others would think of her.

Eventually, she found the courage to let the real Scarlett emerge. She knew that she was talked about, but she went right on with her life. Her father had instilled in her the love of the land. She loved Tara, even though she didn't realize it for a long time. When she thought that she would loose it, she fought courageously to keep it.

The story of Rhett Butler is so romantic, and sad also. He never really let Scarlett know how much he was in love with her. They both made some mistakes in their relationship. Scarlett loved him, but didn't know it for a long time. She thought that she loved Ashley Wilkes, until the night that his wife died.

I love the part where Melonie was having the baby, and Prissy told Scarlett, "I knows everything about birthin' babies". Then when it came right down to it, Scarlett found out that Prissy had lied.

There is a lot of stuff in the book that wasn't in the movie. Scarlett had more children in the book, and more husbands also. The book has more details in it. It just takes a long time to read it.

I live in Georgia, and so did the characters in the story. Maybe that is one reason that I liked it so much. It also is packed with a lot of history about the Civil War. The country was divided at that time, and there seemed to not be a way to reunite it. You can learn about life through history. History often repeats itself.

If you have never read the book or saw the movie, I highly recommend it. The movie is long also, so be sure you have a lot of time to sit and watch it.

10 Interesting Facts About Movies

Everyone loves a good movie. Be it James Bond, Indiana Jones, Iron Man or whatever you might be into, we all enjoy watching a good Hollywood movie. We all hear about the latest news regarding movies and movie stars, but there's also a lot of trivia which we never even hear about. With that in mind, I thought I would write this article with some interesting facts for all my readers.

1. For the movie the Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland was paid $35 a week while Toto received $125 a week.

2. The Blues Brothers once held the record for crashing the most police cars in a movie at approximately 30. The record was eventually broken by Blues Brothers 2000.

3. In the movie E.T. there is a scene where the young boy lures the extraterrestrial with some Reese's pieces. Originally Spielberg was going to use M+M's, but he could not get the rights. Reese's pieces were the replacement.

4. When the Mother-Ship passes over the Devil's Tower near the end of Spielberg's movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, R2-D2 can be seen hanging from the bottom of the ship.

5. When filming summer scenes in winter, actors suck on ice cubes just before the camera rolls - it cools their mouths so their breath doesn't condense in the cold air.

6. The Godfather was the first movie in over twenty years in which Marlon Brando was required to audition.

7. Before anyone is killed in the movie The Godfather, an orange is always seen somewhere.

8. Near the beginning of the movie Back To The Future there's a scene where they show all of the clocks at Doc's house. If you look closely there is one clock with a little man hanging from the minute hand.

9. Brooke Shields spent a lot of time during the filming of Blue Lagoon standing/walking in a trench beside Chris Atkins so that she wouldn't be taller than him in the scenes that they had together.

10. The producers of the movie Gone With The Wind were fined 5,000 dollars for allowing the word "damn" to be heard within the movie's dialog.

Top Five Movies with Epic Endings

Reign of Fire

Not exactly the best movie ever made, but the ending was in a category of its own. The hunt for the final dragon is nicely suspenseful and the running scenes of the group splitting up are beautifully shot. With Denton Van Zan's final leap off the tower, axe in hand, head first into the dragon, and Quinn Abercromby's arrow shot that explodes the beast, throwing Quinn backwards, comes an ending that left audiences saying “holy [insert explicit here]!”

V for Vendetta

The buildup with the domino scene, the rallying of the people and the final fight just screamed “epic ending.” The musical score is excellent the entire way and builds up the scene with plenty of emotion and excitement. The explosion of the Big Ben to the 1812 overture by Tchaikovsky made jaws drop around the theater, and is only topped with the unmasking of the people along with Evey's final words describing V as the man in “all of us.”

Scarface

Who can forget one of the most quoted lines in all of movie history? With his end coming closer and closer, Tony Montana tries to defend the empire he worked so hard to get. Everyone knows he will die, but there's no doubt that it will be one crazy fight. With enough drugs in his body to fill the pool he falls into so tragically, Tony has a shoot-out of the ages, and left movie goers saying “Say hello to my little friend!” for over two decades.

Gladiator

This winner of Best Picture had one of the most epic endings ever, and this is partway due to the fantastic soundtrack. Maximus and Commodus's final fight is incredibly intense and gripping, and Commodus's last breaths (or, should I say, gurgles) are bittersweet as Maximus falls alongside him. But the last scene - Juba's final lines, filled with grief and hope, along with Hans Zimmer's “Now We Are Free” soundtrack - fills the viewer with plenty of goose bumps, and is one of the most inspiring, touching, and epic endings in a movie.

The Matrix

There comes a movie every now and then with an incredible story and revolutionary special effects, and The Matrix is one of those movies. Whether you liked the sequels or not, the ending to this movie is perfectly epic in that it concludes the movie with perfect execution (resulting in satisfaction) yet it leaves the viewer excited and wondering what could happen in a future installment. From the building shootout, to the helicopter rampage, to Neo and Smith's final fight, the action never lets down and only gets increasingly better. The final act, with the rebirth of Neo as “The One,” the death of Agent Smith, and the take off of Neo into the sky with “Wake Up” by Rage Against the Machine playing in the background is legendary, and arguably the most EPIC conclusion to a movie ever made.
