Superfilms: The Hits and Misses of Marvel Movies

Read on for a detailed break down of which vigilante looks the best on the big screen.

Iron Man

Marvel's latest release is Iron Man. This movie was excellent, a must see for anyone who likes action films. Infamous producer Jon Favreau was on top of his game. The script and action scenes were second to none and the story behind Iron man was great as well. He is seen in a new light then most of the comic books as a regular man who has built himself a powerful suit and Robert Downey nails the part. The worst part of the movie was the association it had to the awful song Iron man that played throughout the film. All in all this was one of the top, if not the best, marvel films to date and we can only hope that they get better from here! 9.5/10

Cat Woman

Halle Berry in a tight leather catsuit. Now that the positive aspects are out of the way we can move on to why this movie sucked. Halle Berry can't really act all that good, remember her stellar performance in Die another day(sarcasm). The story line was bad … a lot. It involved some girl who liked cats, doing acrobatic moves around the city and hitting the occasional bad guy. It's not her fault though, nor is it the fault of director Pitof. Marvel must of still been ballooning on there recent success's to think that Cat women would make a decent cinema presentation. If you take a character that is plagued with a awful comic book series and change it into a movie, chances are that it wont be all that great. 2/10

Daredevil

Would have been a much better movie without Ben Affleck but I guess it wasn't terrible anyway. Daredevil is the story of a blind man who happens to get superpowers when he puts on his red costume and plays with a cane. Spiderman's best friend from the cartoon series goes solo and comes up short. This movie was in desperate need for more action even though the story line wasn't the worst. It was an “in your face” style of plot with not much thinking behind it. It wasn't the worse but I wish it had more, that's my conclusion. 6/10

X-Men Trilogy

Personally I loved these movies. The amazing story line, the good against evil fighting, over 40 different cool powers and all without the humans knowing. This trilogy was a masterpiece in my eyes. The last movie even has the good and the bad joining forces to fight off the possible forced extinction of all mutants. Each movie ended with a little cliff hanger making you drool till the next release. I recommend buying the whole trilogy and watching it morning to night with a nice bowl of corn chips. However don't be telling any of the local bullies about this particular Saturday night. Great movies, they all must be watched. 9/10

Hulk

Meh, guy gets angry and breaks stuff. 4/10

Spider-Man Trilogy

The spider-man trilogy was hot and cold for me. I loved the first movie, the excellent action made it one of the better action films or the year. The second movie wasn't as good but the game made up for it. The third movie could of and should have been a lot better. The build up to it created a solid feeling of being let down by the film makers who just didn't put enough time into it. The Spider-Man series left out a lot of interesting characters who could of played a potentially exciting role in the movies. When they introduced the Sandman to the third movie rather then ... say the kingpin or Jack o lantern I was disappointed. The acting also went downhill. The cast that delivered superb performances all around in the first movie seemed to be lacking some oomph the second and third times around. There was also a vicious side plot involving parkers family that created boredom among many viewers. I recommend watching this trilogy spread out over a month rather then all in one day. To much spider man in one day would probably ruin it for you. 7/10

Big Screen Hot List 2008

2008 is heating up to be a great year for film with many highly anticipated titles hitting the big screen in quick succession.

Let's have a look at the top 8 hottest titles to look forward to.

Ironman

Robert Downey junior will don the red and yellow armor of the marvel comic legend Ironman in this big screen adaption and judging from the trailers we've seen so far, this looks to be a furiously fast and explosive ride. Released in the UK today, expect a review shortly from this reporter.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

With Harrison ford reprising his role in this the fourth in the Indiana series; this is set to be a great adventure film. I was a bit skeptical towards the idea because of Fords age but with the news that Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Suburbia recently) will be playing a sort of “young Indy” role, my interest was again piqued. Set for worldwide release on the 22nd of May; expect a big adventurous Spielberg treat.

The X files: I Want to Believe

Expected to reveal many unanswered questions left by the first movie way back in 1998, Agent Mulder and Skully are back to tackle the question of “are we alone?” Due for release in July of this year and also co starring Billy Connolly(curious) and Xzibit(and curiouser) this much anticipated sequel should hopefully shed some light on the mysteries left ten years before.

Hellboy 2

The big red devils back with the wise cracks and the sawn-off horns. Big explosions and magic aplenty. Need I say more? Due for a July release.

The Incredible Hulk

Personally I enjoyed the first hulk but was surprised to hear that there would be a “sequel” This time the legendary Ed Norton will take on the role of tormented Bruce banner who turns into a raging muscle bound green Arnold Schwarzenegger type monster. Just mention Norton and you immediately know this films going to be quirky and different. I'm very excited about this marvel adaption due out June 2008.With additional performances from the likes of Tim Roth and Liv Tyler this is a must see and worth the wait.

James Bond: Quantum of Solace

Expect big things with Daniel Craig back as a grittier more accident prone Bond in his second appearance as the jaded British secret service agent. Rumored to follow on from his previous outing, Bond will be out to have revenge on the man/men responsible for the murder of the love of his life in casino royale. The title also hints to something more behind the storyline. Producer Michael Wilson promised double the action of the first. This should be worth the wait and is expected in November of this year.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Based on the second to last book, this is going to be a darker scarier outing for Harry Potter as his adolescent years advance towards manhood. Revealing more of Voldemorts dark past expect shocking revelations along the way. Even if you have read the books, this will be a must if only to complain about how much they left out again. I can't wait to see how the kids have grown. Due out in November.

The Dark Knight

Christian Bale returns as the caped crusader and this time he goes up against his arch nemesis, The Joker played by the recently deceased Heath Ledger who is missed dearly by all. Being an avid fan of the comic, I was extremely excited to hear that Ledger would be playing the homicidal clown in Chris Nolan's sequel to Batman begins and cannot describe how excited I am to see my two favorite actors go head to head. I have no doubts that this production will keep us all riveted to the franchise and slobbering for more. Expect it out in July of this year.

Comic book adaptations and sequels seem to be the flavor for 2008. With big stars and massive budgets I have no doubts that there will be few disappointments making 2008 a hot year for the big screen.
