Reasons Why You Should Not Include Your Mom, Aunt, and or Grandma in Your Girl’s Night Out Viewing of Sex and the City and Why You Should

First let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Sex and the City. What young woman isn't? However, I will also confess that I am a TBS not HBO viewer. It's important to keep that in mind when I express the complete and total shock that I experienced while watching certain scenes in this movie. The TBS regular cable TV version is squeaky clean. From what I've learned recently, the HBO version was not. O.K. so now I know. Any way, here are my reasons why you should NOT watch this movie with your mom, your aunt, or, God forbid, your grandma. Sex. Sex. Sex. And more sex. Yes, I know that the name of this movie is Sex and the City- the Movie. Duh, I get it. Still, I had no idea that an R rated movie would have quite so much, well, um, sex. Of course, I don't want to ruin the movie for any one who may not have seen it yet.

(Are there such people?) But I would like to stress the fact that there are a few racy (try pornographic) scenes in this movie. First we have Samantha in a couple of voyeurism scenes where she spies on the very hot, very naked next door neighbor. Most of those involve only the neighbor and his one on one fling of choice for the day (prepare to see boobs a bouncin'). Then there's the scene where Mr. Very Hot Neighbor has a two on one session (aka even more boobs bouncin'). Finally, and probably most disturbing there are the two scenes with Miranda and her hubby. The first one- not so bad. The second one nearly burned a hole through my retinas. I mean come on, Miranda and her geeky husband Steve? Neither of them is particularly easy on the eyes to begin with. Add to that the fact that in real life Cynthia Nixon, the actress that plays Miranda, is a lesbian and it becomes way too bizarre.

Aside from the over the top sex scenes, this movie is very good. There are scenes that will make you holler with laughter (think Poo-keepsie), scenes that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy, and scenes that will remind you of what you'd do for your closest girl friends (and what they'd do for you). Think Charlotte as she screams “NO!” at Big over Carrie's shoulder in the first wedding day scene. I'm not the only one who got a little misty! Sex and the City is definitely a feel good movie that reminds women of the wonderful sisterhood that we share. For that reason I would say go ahead and see it with your mom, aunt, and yes even grandma. Just wait until it comes out on TBS.

Sex and the City Review

Sex and the City! Finally the time has arrived and the genius that is Sex and the City is on our big screens. Our Miss Bradshaw is back and we love her even more this time around. I relate to her because she is a writer a freelance writer who worked her way to the top with four books published and several newspaper and magazine columns she is successful and beautiful in a somewhat unconventional way but she still faces the troubles that all women face and that is the problem of that four letter word that means so much, that has been misunderstood throughout the years through generations and generations. That four letter word is LOVE.

The whole film is centered around that word and what it means to each character. The movie is like the series on steroids and it is every womans dream from start to finish. They all face the trials and tribulations of loving and losing and or just loving and being loved but in the end they all come out fine. We see Carrie's MR. Big return, he is back in her life and she has never been happier it seems. The four ladies are four years older and seem wiser and more stylish then they ever have been. They seem to have acquired what they were aspiring for in the series, success and love. Miranda is still married with a child and still working hard as an attorney, Samantha is still going strong with her toyboy actor and living in Hollywood. Charlotte and her husband have adopted a beautiful Chinese orphan, and our Miss Braashaw is apartment hunting with her knight in shining armour MR. Big.

The film is like a roller coaster with it's highs and lows and wonderful fashion, it stays true to the mantra of “Guts and Glamour” and we see Miranda and Carrie still rocking their Manolo's through heartbreak and disappointment, it proves to us that nothing in life is ever perfect but things always seem to work out in the end if we believe in the power of love and forgiveness. I would say it actually gives you a lesson in life just like every episode would end with a message the film ended with a message that love can pretty much conquer all if you believe in it and you work at it. We saw Carrie actually listen to her own advice and see something in herself that needed to change and she did that for the sake of love. The movie is perfection, there is no other word for it.

Sex and the City

Sex and the City (2008)

Rated R for strong sexual content, graphic nudity, and language

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and the girls have officially made the jump to the big screen. As with all TV shows turned movies, the smoothness of the transition seems a constant gamble. So how well did they pull it off? For an over two-hour runtime, they did so surprisingly well. In fact, admittedly not being a huge fan of the TV series, I found the depth of the movie to be impressive for a romantic comedy. From commitment and love to infidelity and fear, the film did an excellent job of exploring serious topics in a genuinely entertaining way.

That being said, virtually no one will be visiting the City for a life-lesson, so the question remains as to whether Sex and the City is a worthwhile and entertaining outing. The answer is an enthusiastic "yes!" Sarah Jessica Parker carries the film splendidly, helping give character to a genre often ridden with clichés. The other girls pull their weight as well, with Kim Cattrall (as Samantha Jones) often stealing the scene with her characteristically unsubtle sense of humor. Cynthia Nixon (as Miranda Hobbes) provides the most dramatic and serious elements of the film, giving a sensitive performance to a role that could have easily been overplayed. Rounding out the group is Kristin Davis (as Charlotte York). Kristin is the "sweet one" of the group, feisty and sensitive as necessary. She often provides for the more light-hearted comic relief as the film borders on heavy-handed at times, at least for a comedy.

The film, while not often truly hilarious, is pleasantly funny throughout. However, one scene involving a Mexican getaway an Charllotte left nearly everyone in my theater in stitches. Let's just say that no one will feel quite as comfortable drinking water in a foreign country. Newcomer Jennifer Hudson also gives a solidly humorous performance as Carrie's personal assistant. Her down-home sense of humor gives a new dimension to the somewhat stuffy nature of the series.

And as far as the plot is concerned, Sex and the City delivers as a romantic comedy, key phrase being "romantic comedy." I've heard complaints about the scripting from series fans, but to those relatively unfamiliar with the show, the script will seem quite superior for the genre. While not groundbreaking, the film is also well-directed, with a distinct sense of self and confidence.

If you're looking for a popcorn flick to see with a group of friends, Sex and the City is an excellent choice amidst the string of yawn-inducing films of this genre that litter the theaters.

*** out of ****

"Sex and the City" Is Getting Its Own Movie

Delightful news has been made recently for those people who happen to be fans of "Sex and the City", HBO's popular show about four women who, from what I have gathered, sit around all the time and sometimes have pretty graphic sex (with men - I think). The new is this: all four women (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon) will reprise their roles in a full-length movie.

It's just so dandy isn't it? The greatest show of ALL time getting its own movie! I can hardly contain my excitement - I'm kidding. I actually have no real beef with the show or the idea that "Sex and the City" will become a movie.

I, sadly, have never had HBO (except for those weekends where they gave everybody a free look, the same weekends where I would cease to exist to the outside world, including one instance where the skin on my back literally fused with my couch - lots of surgery, and no more HBO), so I have never been able to see the show in all of its sexual glory. All I ever get is the watered-down version of the show and that's about as much fun as getting punched in the face repeatedly with a brick.

Hearing about this prompted me to start thinking about the possibility of other popular TV shows getting their own movies. I'm only talking about shows that have been off the air for a few years and didn't suck (so a lot of CBS stuff goes right out the window).

The first (and really only) show that comes to mind that, in my very humble opinion, would make a great movie is "Seinfeld". I've been trying for years to get the bad taste out of my mouth that the series finale gave me but it's been no use. Ultimately, it is a futile effort to forget the worst series-ending finale in history, so the only option left for me at this point is to dream.

A "Seinfeld" movie would be the perfect way to properly end the series and help everyone forget about the debacle that ended with Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer all in prison for a year. Yeah, it got that bad. The concept fits perfectly with moviegoers, too. We all love a good film where we can be entertained without having to think too much, so what better movie to do this for us than a movie about nothing?

Who wouldn't watch a glorified episode of "Seinfeld"? For the people who despise the show: that was a rhetorical question.

If "Sex and the City" gets a movie, then so should "Seinfeld". Let's face it; those poor people have all been typecast as the shallow foursome (I suppose that's the case in both TV shows though, isn't it?), so they might as well embrace it for one more huge payday.

I would definitely pay to see that movie and it's not like it would be the worst idea in the world. After all, they made "Bratz", which is spelled wrong AND it was based off some freakin' dolls that teach girls to be, pardon my French, “sluts”.

Why can't Kramer stumble into my life again, except this time on the big screen?
