I don't think what you are saying here is all the story. I think there is so much more to Cast Away than just the survival! I think that the point of the movie is about passion and making the wrong choices. It's interesting that even though Tom Hanks is all by himself on the island, he is afraid. He thinks that there is a slight possibility that there is someone around and that someone might come and kill him. He is (in the beginning) scared of the noise from the falling coconuts. you see him say "Who is it?" and it's funny at first. I think that's a very normal response. However, the only time he actually starts talking is when he makes himself a friend (Wilson, the volleyball w/ blood on his face). He only speaks to him and he almost never talks to himself. I think the reason that he creates this person, is because its his way of preserving his sanity. It's his psyche's way of defending the horror of loneliness (which is ultimately the scariest thing for any human being).
There is so much more, but for now, this is enough.
