Horror Buff

The thrill of seeing a great horror movie.

As a young girl I have always been fascinated with horror movies and at the time was forbidden to watch them. Reason being I will not be able to sleep or go to the bathroom afterwards on my own, and basically drove my mom and siblings nuts because of it. The first horror movie I ever watched was the “Exorcist.” Linda Blair portrayed a wonderful and spooky role which to this date still haunts me. As I got older I was able to tolerate watching them a bit more, but there were just a few who really gave me the willies and caused me to lie in my bed until the sun came up petrified out of my mind.

These movies, of course, were John Carpentar's “ Halloween,” Stephen King's “It”, the “Omen, Prom Night, Creep Show, and Wes Craven's “Nightmare on Elm Street,” and definitely the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Their were many more I watched through out my teen years that still today creep me out, but let me get into the one's I've watched recently which gave me the same affect as a child and caused me to turn on every light in the house.

These movies ranging as far back as a few years have literally scared me and they are: “The Ring I & II, the Grudge, Hostel I & II, SAW all three, were disgusting and surpassed their predecessors and Rob Zombie did it again when he remade “Halloween” and took us back to a psycho paths beginnings. There was also “Wrong Turn, House on Haunted Hill, the Descent, the Hills Have Eyes I & II, the Orphanage and Staying Alive.”

Being a horror buff I tend to get extremely excited when a new one is about to be released and can't wait. To me it's almost like a child anticipating Christmas and that special toy they requested, or like that special meal that makes your mouth water, just by thinking of it. I am a horror fanatic, and yes I always will be. I love the thrill of being scared and being brought back to my early years when one truly gets to me.

Only this time being an adult I have someone to cuddle up to, in case, those night terrors commence, and therefore find myself watching or seeking a good one on cable mostly every night. To those of you who can't stand horror, I can understand as my spouse hates them too, but for those who share my passion if you haven't watched any of the ones mentioned in this article please do, as they are all great.

Susan,
Great article!!! I love horror movies too! But I really like the classics like Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, Murders In The Rue Morgue to name a few. When I was growing up, these were the movies that gave me a bad case of insomnia. Now I have them all on video. I even have Godzilla and my favorite of all of them, Gamara, The jet propelled turtle that flies through space, as corny as it may sound. The Exorcist gave me the willies too, and believe it or not it still does. From one horror buff to another, totally excellent writing.

I get to know a little more about you in each article. I can call myself no horror flick buff, but I am a any movie buff.

I love horror flicks too. I've never seen the Orphanage or Staying Alive though. I'll have to check those out.
