This first scene is well done because it immediately gives us an idea about how much Will likes his family.
Things get interesting when Will buys his younger sister - Gwen - a pendant for Christmas and two guards suspect him of shoplifting. While Will is being interrogated and trying to plead his innocence, the guards suddenly shape shift into a flock of rooks. This is a very suspenseful and well-filmed scene and it is a great way to start the strange things that are going to happen to Will.
It is Christmas and Will has gone for a walk after a Christmas party his family was invited to. Suddenly a strange figure riding a horse stops him. The hosts of the Christmas Party and two farmers appear and send the figure away. The figure eventually leaves, but not without stating that in five days The Dark will rise.
It is then explained to Will that the four adults who saved him are the last of the Old Ones, warriors who serve The Light and fight off The Dark. Will is the last of them to be born…they say he is the seventh son of a seventh son. Here in lies a problem. Will only has five brothers. He is the sixth son of a seventh son. The Old Ones have got the wrong person…or have they?
Will finds out that he has a long lost twin - who was born before him - who was taken by The Dark. This was a bit obvious, and could have probably been done better.
Anyway, Will now realises that he is The Seeker. His job is to find all six signs before the five days are up. These signs will help The Light defeat The Dark…again, a bit corny. The movie goes on and we follow Will as he goes on a mental and physical journey to not only find the signs, but to find his identity and place in the world. It is a great story that all teenage boys will be able to relate to. I must admit the ending was extremely predictable and corny, but apart from that the rest of the film was amazing.
