Some of the points are very obvious and some of them are kind of hard to see right off the bat. There are more similarities than differences because they are pretty much the same except for that they are in different setting and there is a different quest to accomplish. They both have the same parts of the hero's journey.
One similarity between Star Wars and the Wizard of Oz is that the main characters both live on a farm in the ordinary world as recluses in a way and both go to a new world that is completely different than the one the had previously lived in before. In Star Wars, Luke lives with his Aunt and Uncle on a farm in the middle of some sort of dessert and faces a problem there. In the Wizard of Oz, the main character Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas and faces a problem there too. So the ordinary world part of the Hero's journey in these two movies is almost the same except they are in completely different places.
A difference between the two movies is that in one movie, the main character goes to a nice place and in the other one the main character goes to a bizarre place. In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy goes from a dirty little farm that is shown in black and white to a place that is really sweet and friendly with nice people and is in vibrant color. In Star Wars the character goes from a pretty nice world to one that is scary and violent. Luke goes from the nice little farm to another planet. He crosses the threshold in the bar when he sees all of those weird creatures that are being very violent with him. You can tell it is different from his ordinary world because he seems surprised that there are things that actually like that in the galaxy. So the two characters go to opposite worlds but one is different than the other.
Another difference between the two is that the two color of the movie are different. In the Wizard of Oz, the movie starts of as black and white but then turns to color. I Star Wars it in color the whole time. So the color of the two movies is different but then becomes the same.
A similarity between the two movies is that the two characters were both presented with a magical item. In Star Wars, Luke is given a light saber to fight droids and other things that may cause a danger to his safety. In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy is given the ruby slippers that are magical because they can transport Dorothy home even though she doesn't know it. One of the similarities between the two movies is that they are both given some sort of magical item to take with them on their journey.
The last similarity between the two movies is that both main characters go to a place they aren't used to. In Star Wars, Luke goes to the other planet with all of those weird alien things. Back at his ordinary world there were different things. In the Wizard of OZ, Dorothy goes to the land of Oz and that is really weird for her because it is all nice and stuff were in Kansas it is all dirty and not very nice at all.
As you can see, Star Wars and the Wizard of OZ have many similarities and differences. Some of them are that the both characters go to completely different worlds. Another one is that that are given magical items and that they are in different colors. The two movies are very similar yet very different.
