My friend finally convinced me to go and see Drillbit Taylor, as I had been reluctant to go and see it. This was mainly because I have never really liked a lot of films Owen Wilson have been in, but I think this was mostly because Ben Stiller annoys me. Luckily, Ben Stiller wasn't in this and so I sat down with an open mind. The film opens on two boys talking on the phone. One incredibly geeky and skinny, and the other annoying and fat. I hated them already. Turns out they were very unpopular (there's a suprise), and tomorrow they started high school.
The film progresses and there are some quite amusing jokes about them being very uncool, and they immediately become enemies of two bullys. One of which was Josh from Drake and Josh! They also befriend the geekiest boy in school, much to the anooyance of the fat one. The frankly hilarious bullying continues, with the main bully and Josh from Drake and Josh torturing the three boys in pretty funny ways. Oh and there's also something about the skinny one fancying some asian girl and following her around. Looked a bit perverted to me, but what do I know about love?
So eventually things get so bad that the boys need to hire a bodyguard. This gives the writers a chance to write in quite a funny scene in which they meet several crazy bodyguards. One of which gets owned. It's pretty hilarious. Then, inevitably, Owen Wilson, who is a tramp, walks in and makes up some story and gets the job. There are then some more funny scenes where he basically beats them up, trying to train them. Then Drillbit gets a teachers job in the school, and some how doesn't get found out. He meets the English teacher, falls in love with her, hilarious consequences, etc. Meanwhile the kids get owned some more.
So anyway, I won't ruin it, but typical family film progression occurs, as he gets found out, there's a sad bit, then saves the day, and everyone's happy. Oh, and luckily Josh from Drake and Josh ends up happy. Overall it's actually a very funny film, and the ending is pretty good, although I would have preferred it if Owen Wilson and his stupid deformed nose had died, but, you can't win them all.
Score: 4 Stars ****
My advice: If you like Josh from Drake and Josh, see this film.
