Taming of the Shrew:" 1967 vs. 2006 Versions

A comparison of the two movies based on Shakespeare's play.

The first version was made in 1967 and stared Elizabeth Taylor as Katherina and Richard Burton as Petruchio. This version still used Shakespeare's original dialogue but mixed the story around a bit.

The second interpretation of the play was made in 2006 and stared Shirley Henderson as Katherina and Rufus Sewell as Petruchio, this interpretation was set in modern times and changed the plot of the story a lot, but still had the same idea and quoted Shakespeare in it.

The 1967 version of "The Taming of the Shrew" was hard to understand because it uses Shakespeare's original dialogue and the story is unlikely to happen today.

The 2006 interpretation of the same play was a lot easier to understand because the movie used modern dialogue and the story is more likely to happen today.

Both the movies were updated although the 2006 interpretation was updated a lot more. The 1967 version updates made it easier to understand than if it was a play on a stage, they could use bigger props and a lot of different scenes which made the movie make a lot more sense.

Some of the updates in the 2006 interpretation was Kate and Bianca had a mother instead of a father, this was better because single mothers are more common than single fathers today, the movie was set in London instead of Padua.

Instead of Kate and Bianca being jobless and living with there wealthy father like in the 1967 version, they both had well paying jobs, Bianca was a model and Kate was a politician.

In conclusion I think that the 2006 interpretation of "The Taming of the Shrew" would be more enjoyable for the majority of people today, but the 1967 version would be better for Shakespeare fans.
