Global Warming

This is my reaction to Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth.

Al Gore considers himself a former president of the United States of America, everything about the 2000 presidential election points to him as winning the election except for the end result. Although Al Gore (Senator at The Time) did not officially win the 2000 presidential election, he has still been able to have a huge positive effect on our country in the past few years. He has done this through the production and direction of his now very famous movie An Inconvenient Truth.

In this paper I will talk about the movie An Inconvenient Truth, my reaction to the movie and proof that global warming is real.

The movie is a great resource for anyone who is trying to learn about global warming. The movie is mainly showing the slide show presentation that Al Gore has been doing for many years throughout the world. The slide show presents many facts by using pictures, videos, maps and graphs. The rest of the movie is spent showing people the emotional effects that global warming would have on someone if it were to happen. In the movie Al Gore says "What we take for granted might not be here for our children". I know that any parent would do whatever it took to keep a roof over their kids head for the rest of their lives; so why wouldn't they do whatever it takes to keep ground under their feet? Although many humans may not care about the affects of global warming right now because it is not doing anything to them, it is doing horrible things to animals.

For example, many polar bears are now dying in the ocean because they have to swim much farther to find land masses of ice. Some of the polar bears cannot swim as far as it takes to get to the land so they end up drowning in the ocean. This is not because some mysterious creature is just melting the ice away, this is obviously global warming. This movie does an excellent job of proving the facts sending them to the brain and making you think about them, but it does an even better job of telling the "Inconvenient Truths" sending them to the heart and making you fell for them.

This is the second time I have watched an Inconvenient Truth, the first was in the beginning of 8th grade and the second was now, in the middle of 9th grade. After I finished watching the movie the first time I said something along the lines of "wow that was the most boring movie I have ever seen", or "I can't believe I just wasted two hours watching that". For some reason, after I watched it for the second time I felt completely different. Maybe it is due to the way I have matured in the last year and a half but my reaction was completely reversed. I realized that global warming was actually a real thing. Not something that Al Gore just went on rambling about, it was an actual real thing that is affecting us today. I felt extremely bad for all of the polar bears that have died and will die because of what we are doing to the environment. I also felt for all the animals in the rainforest that will die all because of what we are doing to ruin the earth as a human population. I think it is terrible that we are taking this gift that God has given us and destroying it. In the movie Al Gore says "We are witnessing a collision between our civilization and the earth".

If people were to stop and think for a second they would realize that as of right now there will be no human population without the earth. Although we may not be affected tremendously by global warming, our children and grand-children will be unless we change many things about the way we are living right now.

There are over 600 articles that have been written by the press saying that there is a possibility that the human population might not be causing global warming. People choose to believe this because it is the easy way out, it is their way of saying they don't need to change the way that they are living. Most people choose not to believe the 900+ articles that have been written by educated scientist and reviewed by educated scientist saying that humans are causing global warming. Not even when they hear that not one scientist disagreed with the statement that humans are causing global warming do they choose to believe it. Why? Because then they would have to change their lives. If they believed that they were part of the cause of global warming, then it would take too much effort for them to change the way they were living to save the earth. When people have the audacity to believe that global warming is not real, it is ridiculous. It is a fact that the 10 hottest years in the earth's history occurred in the last 14 years and the hottest was in 2005.

It is also a known fact that when the ocean gets warmer it produces more storms, maybe this had something to do with the fact that Japan had 10 typhoons in 2004. Another example, Lake Chad, once one of the largest lakes in the world has now dried up to become almost nothing. So for all the people who are 100% sure that humans have no affect on global warming, take this quotation from the movie: "What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know but what we know for sure is so"

Before I watched this movie I was one of the people who thought, global warming was fake, it can't affect us and there is now way to stop it; but now I realize that it is real and it will have a huge affect on us and on the rest of the human race that is still to come. I realized that we need to make our best efforts now to stop or at least slow down global warming so that our children and grand-children can live on the same earth that we once lived on. I know many people say that there is now way that the whole world would try to stop global warming together, I think that is just another excuse. Since North America (Mostly the US) is responsible for more than 30% of global warming we would be able to slow down global warming; but that would only happen if we had a president who cared about the environment and what we were doing to it. As Dennis Green would say "We had em, and then we let him off the hook!
