I have read various articles which list favorite things, I often find them interesting and informative. So I thought why not put my thoughts down and see who agrees or disagrees with my choices. My choice of subject is comedy films made by Mel Brooks possibly one of the best comedy directors and writers there has been. I hope you will enjoy reading this and will be reminded of all the fun this multi talented performer, writer.director and producer has given to the world.
- The classic and possibly best comedy ever made Blazing Saddles. This film deals with quite complex issues like racism, bigotry, sexism and reduces them to the ridiculous concepts they really are. Also I defy anyone not to fall about laughing at the beans and farting scene. This film stars some fine actors including Gene Wilder and the gorgeous and funny Madeline Khan as the Teutonic titwillow. This is a film I have watched many times and still have a quiet chuckle to myself when I think of it. Not many films can invoke this reaction with me that is why it remains one of my favourite films of all time in any category.
- The producers, this film when first released was maybe not as successful as others made by Mel Brooks but when I look at it now the delicious bad taste of it all is a delight. Gene Wilder a stalwart in Mel Brooks films is perfectly cast as the accountant caught up in the schemes of Max played beautifully by Zero Mostel. There has now been a stage version which has received many awards and highlights just how good the original was.
- Young Frankenstein, Mel takes on the horror movie with hilarious results.Again another fantastic performance by Gene Wilder as Frankenstein or as he prefers Frankensteen. It has some fine cameo performances by actors like Gene Hackman who played a blind man who befriends the creature with hilarious results. A great joy was watching the bug eyed comedian from the United Kingdom Marty Feldman playing Igor a must see film for comedy fans.
Well they are my top three, Mel Brooks has made many other films like High Anxiety, Space Balls,Robin Hood men in tights. But none I think can top the three I have chosen.
If you have not seen the films I have chosen please do,as you will see a master film maker at his very best.
I'm also a huge Mel Brooks fan, that man in ingenious. I'd have done 1)History Of The World, Part I 2) Young Frankenstein 3)Blazing Saddles.
Just my opinion
