The Philippine movie industry now isn't that lavish the way it was before from the 70's till early years of the 90's. The local biggest stars such as great actress Nora Aunor, action superstar Robin Padilla, Drama actor Richard Gomez, Ace comedian Dolphy, drama actress Dina Bonnevie among others were no longer active in contributing films for the industry because of the worldwide economic crisis that hit in mid-90's.
The Philippine movie industry used to achieve more than 200 movies for release annually before the slump which started in 1994. Action films ruled the competition then followed by comedy flicks, drama films and shared fame with the local release of the biggest Hollywood films which grosses evenly with local films in domestic turn outs.
To date, Philippine movie industry had just able to release a disappointing of less than 50 local films a year and still trying to managed of holding back the old glory days. Now banking more on producing tv shows to heat up movie enthusiasts and keep their interests while formulating some magical procedure in the movie industry.
GMA7-Kapuso, the biggest and top local channel among any other channel in the Philippines had a successful idea in banking on to their top lead actors, Dingdong Dantes and Richard Gutierrez. Dantes is considered now as the country's hottest matinee idol with such tv hits like “Encantadia”, “Marimar” and “Dyesebel”. Catapulted him from a teenage actor cum tv host into a sexy drama actor of the country.
Gutierrez, on the other hand, had proven his worth as the network's one and only primetime king with equally-successful telefantasia shows such as “Mulawin”, “Sugo”, ”Lupin”, “Captain Barbell”, “Kamandag” and his latest tv starrer, “Codename:Asero”.
In a recent fashion event of a top denim and underwear line in which both actors were product endorsers, a clash among the two actors had occurred upon a negative comment from Gutierrez' mother by saying that her son wasn't given a fair exposure. His mother, Annabel Rama, who is his talent manager also, gave a threatening remark to pull off her son from the clothing line's roster of endorsers.
The fashion show which was performed by the country's top male and female fashion models and other shining actors and actresses gave the two top actors a chance to provide their legions of fans and supporters what everybody calls, ultimate show. Since Dantes had tried more daring acts in the past being a top denim and underwear model of a rival men's undergarment years ago, did not bother to show a bit skin by wearing an underwear on the ramp. Thus, achieving more applause from the audience more than what Gutierrez had.
But since Gutierrez and Dantes don't find the professional conflict to affect them personally, both were able to explain to each supporter that everything was just a healthy competition.
But movie enthusiasts and both actors' fans are now having a wild anticipation that the clash on both actors camp will soon to heat up again on the time of the showing of their respective films.
Dantes is soon to be seen with screen partner and FHM Philippines 2008 sexiest Marian Rivera whom he had worked with in the top-rating tv show “Marimar” and in their current tv series, “Dyesebel”.
On the other hand, Gutierrez is at present finishing his work with newest screen sweetheart, KC Conception, whom, according to observers, is his girlfriend now. Although, Gutierrez' film might come out for public viewing ahead of Dantes', movie enthusiast are now expecting bigger array of talks to who will make it big in the box-office.
