As a movie fan, it brings me to tears when I watch what's left of the film-the surviving footage. It brings me to tears for two reasons. First, I am happy that at least some of the film footage survived. On the other hand, I want to see more! That five or ten or whatever minutes of footage is not enough. Don't try to argue with me! It's not enough! As a movie fan, it also brings me much sorrow to discover how much films are entirely lost. When we lose our films, we lose a bit of our cinematic history. As a result of losing a bit of our cinematic history, we lose a bit of ourselves as well. Movies really bring us together! When we lose them, it's also one less opportunity to come together as one. I am glad that some DVDs feature surviving footage of somewhat lost films. I am also glad there are film preservation groups that find these films hidden deep within the vaults. I encourage everyone to do whatever they can to help preserve our films! Save the films! Movies are used predominantly for entertainment, but they can be used for so much more than that. I use movies for entertainment, and inspiration for my writings. So what are you waiting for? Get out there, and save those movies!
