Celebrity Winners of the Golden Razzi Awards

Golden Raspberries, or Razzie, Awards have been awarded since 1981. Some very famous names have won the award.

The first Razzies, or Golden Raspberry Awards, were first awarded in 1981. They were intended to counter balance the Academy Awards. These awards are gold sprayed raspberries mounted on a plastic base and they are handed out to the worst actors, actresses, screenwriters, song writers and directors in the film industry.

These actresses won razzie awards for their performances:

Mariah Carey in Glitter

Although Maria Carey was not praised for her acting role in this film, her songs and the way she delivered them redeemed her a little. Perhaps she is more suited to singing than acting.

Bo Derek as Jane in Tarzan the Ape Man

This is the Tarzan Story but it is told from the point of view of Jane Parker (Bo Derek). It seems that even Tarzan the Ape Man is more interested in Bo Derek than he is in his surroundings. Bo Derek is purely decorative in this movie.

Heather Donahue in The Blair Witch Project

As the Wicked Witch of The West, Heather is totally unconvincing in this movie. She certainly deserved her golden raspberry for this one.

Jennifer Lopez as Ricki in Gigli

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck as a very unconvincing couple in Gigli. They don't even look as though they fancy each other most of the time.

Madonna For Her Starring Role in Shanghai Surprise

Madonna's role in this totally unconvincing movie, based on 1930's China, earned her a raspberry and made her, and excerpts from this movie, the subject of one or two comedy shows.

Liza Minelli's Leading Lady to Dudley Moore in Arthur 2: On The Rocks

This 1988 attempt at bringing back the humor of the original Arthur Story didn't do Liza Minnelli, or Dudley Moore any favors, but she was the one who collected the raspberry.

Demi Moore for Her Role as Lt. Jordan O'Neil in GI Jane

This movie was very popular and got some excellent reviews despite the unconvincing acting of Demi Moore. She was the one thing that spoiled the movie. A case of mis-casting if ever there was one.

Razzies have also been awarded to some very famous actors:

Ben Affleck as Larry Gigli in Gigli

Ben Affleck didn't have a chance here as his unconvincing relationship with Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) fell totally flat.

Kevin Costner for his Role as Robin Hood Prince of Thieves

Kevin Costner was not a very convincing Robin Hood. He just didn't have the ability to put the "power" of the role across, but if you close your eyes, the soundtrack is wonderful.

Neil Diamond for his Starring Role in The Jazz Singer

Neil Diamond is a great singer but that is all he is. His acting in this movie was totally unconvincing. Sorry Neil, you deserve this raspberry.

Adam Sandler as Sonny in Big Daddy

Adam Sandler got a golden raspberry for his unconvincing part in this movie. Maybe the limelight was stolen by little Dylan Sprouse (Cole).

John Travolta for his Effort to Make Something Out of Nothing in Battlefield Earth

John Travolta deserved his Golden Raspberry Award for an almost laughable and totally unconvincing performance in this Scientology based movie.

Sylvester Stallone for his Role with Dolly Parton, in Rhinestone.

Even with all those muscles and that rugged look, Sly Stallone was still totally unconvincing as the New York cabbie in his role with country singer Dolly Parton.

Let's give them all a great big golden raspberry.

I have to say, I really liked Robin Hood, although I liked Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater more then Kevin Costner. And sorry if GI Jane was not liked, but I thought that movie rocked. I'm all about Girl Power!!!
