10 Classic Movie Blunders... Blame the Editor!

Motion pictures undergo a tremendous amount of scrutiny prior to being released. Yet, despite all this inspection, mistakes still make it through the editing process regularly. Here are 10 of my favorites.

Did you catch any of these the first time you saw the movie? Next time one of these movies is on television, see if you can spot the mistake!

  1. Stripes

When Bill Murray is going AWOL and Harold Ramos tackles him by the tanks. In one scene, his duffle bag is off to the side. In the next shot the duffle bag is under his head. They go back and forth a couple of times with the bag moving each time.
  2. Braveheart

It's battle time and William Wallace is charging the English. He has his trusty sword in hand. The scene cuts away and then comes back to Wallace. This time he is running with an axe. He is then seen running with nothing in his hand and then finally, he has his sword back again. He seems very uncertain about which weapon to use, doesn't he?
  3. Caddyshack

Danny, Ty and crew are in Judge Smails office hashing out the details of their tournament. The Judge gets angry and slides his lamp off the desk in frustration. Later on in the scene, the lamp mysteriously reappears.
  4. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones is threatening to blow up the Ark. His nemesis, Belloq is staring up at him. Suddenly a fly lands on his face and then disappears into Belloq's mouth. He doesn't chew, so he must have swallowed it whole.
  5. Gladiator

During the fight to the death scene in the Coliseum, one of the chariots is turned over. When this happens, you can see a gas cylinder quite clearly. Talk about performance enhancing!
  6. Titanic

Smooth talking Jack told Rose that when he was a kid, he went ice fishing on Lake Wissota, a man made lake near Chippewa Falls, in Wisconsin. Sounds quaint. However, in reality, the lake was created in 1918 when the Wisconsin-Minnesota power company built a dam on the Chippewa River, six years after the Titanic sank.
  7. American Pie

During the party scene, a girl is holding a clear cup full of beer. The scene cuts away and when it comes back to her, the cup is blue. The clear cup then suddenly reappears the next time you see her.
  8. Teen Wolf

During the championship game scene, the crowd comes running onto the floor to congratulate the wolf man. While Michael J. Fox is hugging his dad, if you look to the left side of the screen, you will see a guy with his zipper way undone. He is busy trying to zip up during the scene. I just don't want to know why his fly was undone to begin with.
  9. Die Hard

When Bruce Willis is going through the online directory, you can see the name Holly Gennaro. When he taps on the name it changes to Holly Gennero.
  10. Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Damone tells Ratner to play Led Zeppelin 4 to impress his date, Jennifer Jason Leigh. They cut to a scene with Ratner and her cruising in his car. As instructed, Led Zeppelin is on the radio. However, the song is Kashmir which was on Physical Graffiti, not Led Zeppelin 4.

Nicely written article Franksaq. I just love looking for editing errors in the movies that watch.

I had heard on television program that the guy that had his zipper unzipped in Teen Wolf, actually had his "Blank" hanging out in the original movie. I think that unless you have the original VHS movie of Teen Wolf you will not see it, because since then they have edited it out.

My understanding is that the guy was a movie extra trying to draw attention to his role in the movie and rolled the dice that his stunt would land him a speaking role in another movie. I don't think it worked.
