All the familiar characters are back in Far Far Away in this third installment of the Shrek story, with Shrek and Fiona covering royal engagements while King Harold is ill. When the King dies, Shrek is next in line for the throne but doesn't feel up for the job. Fiona's cousin Artie is the only other candidate, and Shrek sets off to find him.
While Shrek is away, he misses out on a Far Far Away reunion. Every fairytale creature with an ax to grind lines up behind Prince Charming as he seeks to reclaim a throne he feels is rightfully his.
With so many characters fighting for screen space, the plot gets rather lost. Shrek has problems of his own as he finds out he's going to be a father and that Prince Charming has kidnapped Fiona.
New voices include Eric Idle as the batty magician Merlin and Justin Timberlake as the unpopular, but surprisingly well-adjusted, teenage Artie.
Shrek The Third is just as superbly animated as the previous films, but not as funny. Entertaining for kids, but slightly disappointing for adults, we can only hope for a return to form in the promised Shrek 4.
