Some of the greatest chefs of all time cook in Paris, but when eating at one of their many five star restaurants, have you ever stopped to think who is really cooking your food? With this movie it's not so much who handles the precious meals, but more who controls the people who prepare the meals.
In this animation, adventure, fantasy, family and comedy, there is a young, blue rat named Remy who lives in the French countryside. The little blue rat ends up in Paris because he gets spotted by a human, and she chased after him along with his whole clan of rats to the river where he loses the rest of his family. Although Remy was scared half to death he just kept moving on, until he hits the big city of Paris, home of Gusteau (a famous chef, Remy's idol) who cooked great until Remy soon found out that his idol had died. When Remy makes an unusual alliance with the restaurants new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy's family's skepticism and the rat-hating nature of the humans. With only a few wrong turns in choice of ingredients, everything turns into right. The two pals Remy (rat) and Linguini's (garbage boy, phony cook) lives go up hill from that point and on, until kinks are found along the line.
With a cast like Patton Oswalt (Remy's voice), Ian Holm (skinner's voice), Lou Romano (Linguini's voice), and Janeanne Garfalo (Colette's voice) your sure to be in for a great movie. Along with the plot/story line being a comedy and all, the cast not only has the chance to be their funny selves but they can also have a great time together, which is important with any cast, for any movie. Some of the shows/series, and movies some if the cast have previously played a role in are as follows: Two and a Half Men, Kim Possible, Jimmy Glick in La La World, Cars, The Incredibles, Sponge Bob, Taxi, monkey Bone, Boys Night Out, The Monsters INC, there is also much, much more.
As far as voices go and overall, the movie was awesome! As far as for little goof-ups in the movie, there were few I spotted, except for when the computer graphics were set wrong. For instance, during the movie when Skinner (owner before Linguini, after Gusteau) is explaining about the corns dogs to the marketing executive, the cardboard cut-outs are facing them; when Skinner goes and sits down at his desk the cardboards are then facing his desk.
Like other animated-comedies or even just comedies, after leaving the theatre you're still giggling about silly, stupid moments in the movie or just the others in the theatre. Even when you've just watched any really great movie, you have the dame feelings. If the movie you just watched was horrible you don't really exactly care about it anymore, except for the fact that you wasted your gas money to watch a pointless movie that was horrible.
Some parts of the movie were very funny and I enjoyed them very much. So I will share with you three parts that I liked:
Remy: What is that you're eating?
Emile: [pause] I don't really know. I think it was some sort of wrapper once.
Remy: What!? You're in Paris now, baby! My town! No brother of mine eats rejecta-menta in my town!
[Skinner has gottenLinguini drunk in the hopes of getting him to confess about the rat]
Linguini: Hey…Why do they call it that?
Skinner: What?
Linguini:Ratatouille. It's a stew right? Why do they call it that? If you're gonna make a food, you give it a name that sounds delicious. Ratatouille doesn't sound delicious. It sounds like “rat” and “patootie.” That's Rat-patootie, which does not sound delicious at all.
[Linguini is talking to Remy]
Linguini: You're the one who was getting fancy with the spices! What did you throw in there? Oregano? No? What r-uh, rosemary? That is a spice right, isn't it? Rosemary?
With a movie like this, there is not even one reason why you can't take 1 hour and 11minutes out of your day to watch it. So, grab your favourite popcorn, your cliker, a comfy spot in the house, and invite some old buddies over. Sit down and watch the movie together, like a family; you'll never forget the name Ratatouille! The next time you're at your favourite restaurant, remember to take into consideration that, “Anyone CAN Cook!”
