Kill Bill Movie Review

Kill Bill: A hit or a miss?

I chose this movie for many reasons. For one, this movie is well directed and is one of my favorites. The storyline is very eye-catching, with lots of flashbacks that fit in with the story nicely. It is also very easy to follow. Kill Bill is well acted out. Uma Thurman does an excellent job of being an ex-assassin. The special effects are a bit over the top sometimes, but that distinguishes this film from others. Some scenes turned into blood-baths, but that doesn't mean the special effects are overly realistic. The music fits in well with the scenes and the director chose a great variety of songs. It is also interesting how the bride (Uma Thurman) takes out the 2 assassins.

The story is set mainly in two countries; Japan and America. One of the first scenes is set in a hospital, when the bride wakes up from her coma. The scene is then moved to Vernita Greens house, where the bride attempts to kill her. The next scene is set in Japan, where the bride collects a samari sword from Hattori Hanzo (Sony Chiba). She then goes to the Crazy 88 crime gang's base to eliminate the second person on the list.

The bride was the deadliest assassin of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, until she decided to leave and start over her life. On her wedding day, she is shot in the head by the leader of the Assassination Squad, Bill. Four years later, the bride woke up from her coma, seeking revenge. She makes a list of all the assassins of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and sets out to eliminate the first 2 on her list. Vernita Green (an ex-assassin) and O-Ren Ishii (the leader of the Crazy 88 crime gang. She engages in a rampage of revenge and will not rest until everyone on her list is dead, saving Bill for last.

Most of the special effects on Kill Bill are on the killing, such as body parts being sliced up. Sometimes this goes over the top e.g. the amount of blood that spurts out when an arm is chopped off. This makes scenes more exciting or disgusting. It depends on the viewer.

Kill Bill has a variety of songs played during scenes. In my opinion, the songs fit in well with the scenes. There are many signature tunes in this movie. “Bang Bang” by Nancy Sinatra was played at the start of the film and when the bride enters a different scene. Sound effects are put in when people are sliced by samari swords.

Most of the scenes in Kill Bill are medium range or close up shots. When the bride is fighting assassins, the camera angle is medium range from the action. When she wakes up in the hospital, the camera angle is close up from the action.

The prop I chose was the knife used in the fight between the bride and Vernita Green. A knife would usually look natural in a kitchen or in the hands of a murderer. It would look unusual anywhere else. This prop would be found in a killing, murder or cooking film.
