I'm not really a big fan of Hollywood films because they are too predictable and dim-witted for my taste (there are exceptions of course) and Hancock was just another addition to my not-to-watch films. Blame it to boredom and vague memories of recalling my favorite films; my guy downloaded the movie today and has actually persuaded me to watch it. I was expecting (hoping) something different from this film since I loved Will Smith in I Am Legend but he disappointed me this time.
Smith wasn't able to give realistic portrayal of an anti-social drunkard, depress and lonely super-hero especially in the scene where he was confronted by commuters in the railway accident. I mean, if I am really that spotlight-whore who wants to irritates the people of LA, I would not stand there, arms crossed, while being criticized and thrown with bad words, instead I would have shouted back and fly away mocking everyone. And for God's sake, throwing a kid in the air, coming down in one piece is so unrealistic and childish in the part of the protagonist.
I guess everyone was expecting the make-over long before Ray (Jason Bateman) handed Hancock his business card and when he did transformed into the superhero everyone will love I wanted to shut down the computer because I knew Mary (Charlize Theron) would finally come out as the conflict. It was so obvious that she knows something about Hancock's loss of memory and that she is head over heels with him the minute he set foot in their house. Occasional glances, sympathetic look when watching him on TV, stolen stares and the oh-so loving gaze.
The expected twist is a major necessity for the movie so it will not be a total disaster in the cinema (nevertheless, it is). Of course, how else can Hollywood inject that much needed conflict but through romance! I guess Hollywood writers have run out of imagination already.
The antagonists, former Hancock's prison mates whom he shoved the other's head in the other's ass, is so poorly established in the movie. How pathetic can it be, when without establishment, without history whatsoever in any part of the film, these characters turned out to be Hancock's kin who are out to destroy him and steal his power? They look like a bunch of unglamorous, lame people who are stupid enough to launch an attack to Hancock without proper planning.
Well, Hancock showed Smith's perfectly round ass, what more can I ask for? But for that to waste 8 euros in the cinema, its not worth it.
